New Regions Arrive For SL21B

Four new SL21B regions have arrived recently on the grid shown in black in the south east corner. It’s expected that more SLB regions will be added on the grid in the weeks ahead. When we get closer to mid June 2024 the regions will probably all merge into one big land mass.

The SLB Planning regions have changed slightly within the past week. This could be start of the new birthday stage or birthday cake or something else in the central area.

SL21B is scheduled for 21st June through until 21st July 2024 in Second Life. I can’t wait.

Lab Gab: Tilia Acquisition

On Friday 26th April 2024 there was a special Lab Gab (27 minutes / 6 seconds) on the new Tilia acquisition hosted by Strawberry Linden and Oberwolf Linden (Executive Chairman, Brad Oberwager). For anyone that has not watched it yet then the full session is above to watch again. I think many found the lab gab to be very useful as many questions were answered and concerns addressed.

Oberwolf talked about user fees for payment processing and he has no intention to change fees any which way as the result of the new deal with Thunes. LindeX is expensive to run and maintain so there may be changes made on a business benefit basis in the near future. I thought it was interesting to get a glimpse into Oberwolf’s thought process and it’s in line with what was said in previous years about what the plans for Tilia were.

The Thunes deal has gone ahead because this is apparently good for Linden Lab/Second Life. There is nothing negative about this new deal. Oberwolf still remains fully supportive of Second Life and he is willing to put more money from the sale back into Second Life which is great news.

I think many are now looking forward to the upcoming Community Roundtable hosted by the lab and this meeting will take place at 9am SLT on 20th May 2024. The location will be announced nearer the community roundtable meeting date.

Oberwolf Linden and Grumpity Linden will be at the first Round Table meeting where there will be an open Q&A part and further discussion on the Tilia acquisition and mention on the new upcoming Second Life Policy updates.

New Community Roundtable: 20th May Possible Date ?

In the recent lab gab (24mins/14secs) held on 19th April 2024 Grumpity Linden talked about the new upcoming Community Roundtable with Second Life Leadership which is due to launch in late May 2024. In this new roundtable Linden Lab executives will be regularly available to meet directly and in real time with the Second Life community like the weekly user office hours. Linden Lab are looking for ways to improve communications with the Second Life community.

This new community roundtable will be more of a general purpose user group for the community to provide input to the leadership with ideas on how to improve Second Life. More details for how to participate in the new community roundtable will be announced soon. The lab are working hard now to improve Second Life from the inside out.

The lab had said this on 23rd April 2024 “This is good news for Second Life residents and creators. More options without additional costs. We are having an open meeting on May 20 and can discuss in detail”. This was posted just after the press release for the recent Thune acquisition.

20th May 2024 could be the official date for this new community roundtable to take place in Second Life. We will have to wait and see.

Linden Lab Sells Tilia To Thunes

It has officially been announced via a press release by Thunes on Tuesday 23rd April that Thunes, a global cross-border payments company is proud that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Tillia LLC, an all-in-one payments platform by Linden Lab. It is still currently awaiting regulatory approval. There has been alot of buzz and questions via the Second Life forums during the past 24 hours.

Following regulatory approval Tilia will be re-branded Thunes and will continue to be based in San Francisco. The agreement is subject to an 5 year collaboration where Thunes will provide payment processing and payouts to Linden Lab.

Floris de Kort, CEO of Thunes, says, “The acquisition of Tilia demonstrates our ambition in the United States. This investment will enable us to leverage Tilia’s capabilities to provide merchants with direct money movement solutions in and out of the United States. Furthermore, Tilia’s deep expertise in online gaming, virtual worlds and token-based payments will greatly accelerate our growth into that fast-growing, exciting industry.”

Brad Oberwager, CEO of Linden Lab, says, “Thunes is an exceptional company that directly connects nearly every payment method and market worldwide. The combination of Tilia and Thunes will give Linden Lab’s customers more payment choices, and the ability to receive pay-outs in real time, anywhere, into the wallet or bank account of their choice. It will be business as usual for our people and our customers as we bring Tilia and Thunes together.”

Mediterranean Railway Network – April 2024 Update

Mediterranean sub continent – 24th April 2024

The Mediterranean sub continent is making good progress with more new land mass being added in the south and in the north just recently. There is now a new railway network on the Mediterranean sub continent which is still under construction. Start at SSPSubtle Joy in the south then follow the railway line north then towards SSPOtro Gallo where the railway line is to be continued very soon.

At the moment there is one railway station on the Mediterranean sub continent which can be found in SSPCondor Pass region which includes double tracks and rez zone. The Moles are still working on the railway network and you can expect more new railway stations/new railway tracks to be built in the weeks/months ahead.

The first batch of Mediterranean regions were added on the grid in early December 2023 and since then more new batches of regions have been connected. Linden Lab revealed the this Linden Home theme back on Friday 8th December during the SL Christmas Expo 2023.

Start at the Marimba region then head north over the new railway bridge which is incredible
